Surprise! This year, I have been selected by Macmillan to run the London Marathon with them. To say I am elated is an understatement. As many of you know, running is a huge passion of mine and I cannot wait to take on this challenge.
Though I am not under the illusion that a marathon (42 km or 26.2 miles) is a long long distance (the most I have ever run), I have every belief in myself that I CAN do it. The longest distance I have run to date is a half-marathon in 1 hour 47 minutes, so if I just do that twice… ok, I know it is not that easy. However, I am so excited to be running for a purpose greater than seeing whether I can?! Primarily, I am running for Macmillan Cancer Support who is also the charity of choice for the event this year, but I shall also be donating 10% of my proceeds to B-eat, the UK’s leading eating disorder charity.
Join me on my journey to running 42 km
My Story:
I have chosen to run the London Marathon this year in aid of Macmillan and B-eat. Both are incredible charities that have had a huge impact on mine and my sister’s life (Odette). I hope that by raising the funds through this fundraiser I can give back to two charities that have helped our family. All donations will go directly to the charities and help me in my process of training for this wonderful event.
Macmillan is the elected charity for the 2021 London Marathon. As a result of my sister being diagnosed with thyroid cancer during the first lockdown of 2020, Macmillan has had a massive impact on both her ability to receive emotional support and for us as a family. Macmillan cancer support is an incredible charity that helps provide resources for the 3 million people in the UK suffering from this terrible illness. 90% of my proceeds will be going towards Macmillan to provide them with the desperate funding they deserve to support those living with and amongst cancer.
B-eat is the UK’s leading Eating Disorder charity. As it stands, 1.25 million people in the UK are suffering from an eating disorder (anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED). As a sufferer myself, without B-eat my recovery would not have been possible. Through the hard work I have put in, I finally want to be able to give back to a charity that is so important to my family and me. Through the help of B-eat, individuals are able to receive life-saving treatment and resources which would otherwise be unavailable. With a 24 hour national helpline, the work B-eat do is incremental to helping the lives of sufferers and families living amongst an eating disorder. I currently work as an online volunteer for B-eat, however, I wish to help this charity further by donating 10% of my total profits to them.
